Skills Assessment
The medical interpreting skills
assessment tests for a candidate’s
ability to conduct interpreting
in English and a second language
between a provider and a non-English
speaking patient.
In addition to the interpreted
medical encounter where interpreting
skills are evaluated, a written
test is conducted to evaluate a
candidate’s knowledge in the
following areas:
- Medical vocabulary
- Knowledge of most common conditions,
including symptoms
- Patient culture, ethics and
standards of practice
- Medical procedures and specialties
- Knowledge of basic anatomy
